The Outer Worlds from Obsidian is a very fun RPG which is currently included with Xbox Game Pass.
I've gotten used to playing non VR games on my PS4 using the cinema screen feature (a floating screen in front of you) and thought I would play The Outer Worlds like this.
If i was playing on PS4 this would be simple, I could select my desired screen size (small, medium, large) and recentre the screen if it drifted.
The PSVR can be hooked up to other HDMI sources and used as a screen, so I unplugged the HDMI from the PS4 and plugged it into the Xbox, the PSVR display showed the Xbox home screen however when being used like this it defaults to the medium size screen, this was fine when I played Gears of War 5 recently so I started up The Outer Worlds.
Almost immediately I noticed a problem, whilst Gears worked fine there was very little reading involved in that, in The Outer Worlds the character creation screen had lots of text, this was too awkward to read so I dug into the Xbox accessibility settings and found the screen magnifier option, this allowed me to create my character, using the magnifier wasn't perfect but I managed to get a few hours in.
I needed a better solution for my next gaming session.
So I hooked up the PS4 and PSVR again, made sure HDMI device link was off in the settings, I may not have had to do this but wanted to make sure.
Set the PSVR screen to large.
Then put my PS4 into standby mode, this also turned of my PSVR.
I then plugged the PS4 HDMI into the Xbox and powered on the PSVR, with device link turned off my PS4 stayed in standby.
I now had the PSVR displaying the Xbox home screen but with the large screen, this made the writing easier to read and the game much more immersive.
If the screen drifted I just powered the headset off and on.
Dear Obsidian, please give us the option of increasing the size of the writing please.
I understand that playing on a normal screen will give me a better resolution however I prefer the immersion of the PSVR screen, also being able to lie down in bed and just look up at the screen is very convenient.
Does anyone else use their PSVR for non VR games? What have you hooked your PSVR up too? I've hooked mine up to a PSTV to play Vita games.
